2014 Professional World Disc Golf Championship Redux

If you have never played Disc Golf, never seen it, don't know what it is, play every day, or something in between, do yourself a favor and watch this video. The excitement is contagious as these men and women make the longest drives and putts look routine. This was a fantastic event and the recap that this footage provides does a very good job of encapsulating all the excitement and majesty that is the sport.

McBeast Diaries

Paul "McBeast" McBeth reflects on his third back to back world title in the Men's Pro Open division. To have accomplished so much by age 24 is incredible. He is an excellent player and ambassador for the sport. This footage also includes content from the 2014 Brent Hambrick Memorial Open.

Off the Wilderness album, here is Archer Prewitt's O, KY. Love this tune, the piano gets me every time. Enjoy.

Happy Birthday

To the brilliant pop parodist Alfred Matthew Yankovic, better known as Weird Al.

He is 55 today and finally reached number one with the release of his album Mandatory Fun in 2014. Much deserved. He started on the Dr. Demento radio show and never looked back. He has so many wonderfully hilarious parodies that it is hard to single any out, but I have to highlight Foil from his latest album which is sung to the tune of Lorde's Royals. I liked it so much that I have previously posted it on this blog.

Weird Al has said that Mandatory Fun may have been his last full length album and that he may focus his efforts on releasing singles from now on.

Ghost Love Score

Nightwish live in concert in Buenos Aires featuring Floor Jansen. This is Ghost Love Score and there is nothing quite like it. In fact, many people are calling it Ghost Love Floor because she has taken the song and made it her own. Enjoy.

Somebody that I used to know

Pentatonix covers Gotye's haunting song, Somebody that I used to know. If you like a cappella music these guys are pretty good. The word that comes to mind for this cover is stellar. Enjoy.

Will Schusterick wins the USDGC

One of my favorite tour players, and two time past United States Disc Golf Championship winner, once again won the USDGC, but this time he had to survive a three way playoff to do it. Will Schusterick took the title on the second hole of a sudden death playoff against the reigning world champion Paul McBeth. The USDGC signals the end of the major touring season for disc golf and was a fitting end to what has been a really exciting tour year. Congratulations Will Schusterick. Full results of the USDGC Open flight can be found here.

Wonderful Life

I love this cover of Black's Wonderful Life by Smith & Burrows. It can be a wonderful life if you let it, can it not?

Atlas Shrugged - Part III

Part three of the trilogy debuts in one week. Watch for it in a theater near you.

How do you spell English?

This head-scratcher was posed to me by my son while doing his homework last night. Instead of my stock "How do you think it's spelled?" response I was kind of mystified and said to him, "Come on, you have English every day in school, you must see the word all the time and know how to spell it. For crying out loud it's one of your core subjects."

He replied, "No daddy, it's called Language Arts."

I didn't know what to say. It's English. I've seen it and they are learning how to use the English language. There are no other languages involved, there is no art as far as I can tell, just grammar, spelling, etc. He has Art and it's entirely another subject and grade. Oh well, perhaps if they called it what it is, maybe he would know how to spell it. Just saying.

You know I'm no good

Felt like posting this today. A drunk Amy Winehouse sings better than 99% of the auto-tuned manufactured pop divas of today. Here she is singingYou know I'm no good live in London. R.I.P. Amy, we miss you.

Florida sweeps the worlds in Pro Men's Open and Men's Masters

Paul "McBeast" McBeth and Ken "Champ" Climo took the Pro Men's Open and Pro Men's Masters division in the PDGA Worlds in Oregon this past Saturday. Both play out of Florida.

McBeast three-peated in the Open division and Kenny took the Masters. Kenny now has multiple crowns,  having won the Open multiple times in the past and now having won the Masters more than once. In total Climo is now the proud owner of 14 world championship titles.

Both wins were by one stroke, the Men's Open division coming on a par five fifth playoff hole. Ricky Wysocki managed a par on the hole while McBeth made a pressure uphill putt for birdie and took the crown for the third straight time. In the Women's Pro Open division Catrina Allen took the title. Full results can be found here.

It's too late now of course, but this would have been great to include in the vows.

Japan Open 2014

Fantastic coverage of the 2014 Japan Open. This tournament is probably the best tournament in all of disc golf and is held every two years. It did not happen in 2012 because of the earthquake and all the players were really glad it was back.

Had to post this. This man is a parody genius. I have always liked his stuff and he is on a roll with his new album "Mandatory Fun." Enjoy.

Citigroup to pay 7 billion...

You knew it was coming. Although several other banks got bigger haircuts than this, Citi has agreed to pay USD 7 billion in the their mortgage settlement. As is usual in these types of settlements it's more than they wanted to pay and less than the Justice Department wanted.

It's over...

Wow! What a tournament. What a month. Well done Germany (champions of the world and well deserved), well done Argentina (you came close, so very close), well done Netherlands (you were a great team and showed poise, creativity and mental as well as physical strength throughout your run) and well done Brazil (without your best player you looked lost and you need to retool at the club level, but you are still the fourth best team in the world).

Well done to the Ticos (Costa Rica) who were amongst the 8 best teams in the world and well done USA for surviving the group of death and making it into the round of 16. Well done young James Rodriguez for winning the golden boot. You scored in every match you played. Well done Miroslav Klose for becoming the tournament's all time leading scorer with 16 goals.

Above all, well done Brazil for hosting a month long orgy of viewing pleasure for those of us who love futbol. You did a great job and I for one am sad that it is over. I love the World Cup!

Happy Birthday

To Morrissey. Most people on the music scene have to die to reach the iconic status that he holds in the indie ranks. Whether you like him or not he has had a lot of success as an artist. He is 54 today.

Oh boy...do I remember these meetings!

And not with fondness I might add. I am also not done with these types of encounters by any stretch of the imagination. As a consultant, these are fairly frequent. The difference is I now charge fees for this type of mind-bending experience. This is classic.

Knowshon Moreno to Dolphins

It's official. We had brought him in for a tryout and he is now a Miami Dolphin. Knowshon signed a one year deal said to be worth about 3 million. I'm on the fence about this move. Our running game was pretty lousy last year and he's a solid back with good receiving skills who is also pretty good at picking up the blitz, but I'm not sure that he will make that much difference. I hope I am wrong and that he has a stellar season. That would be good for the Dolphins and good for him to shore up his stock after the one year deal runs out. The motivation is certainly there. Let's see how he performs without an all world quarterback at the helm.

Dick Bove on Citigroup

"Sell, sell, sell..." is his message. Watch him here as he calls the Mexican situation a "horror show." He is of course referring to the lack of controls in Banamex which allowed 400 million U.S. dollars to essentially walk out the door. Also in the news today, the Fed rejected Citi's request to raise its dividend stating that the Fed's latest stress test shows the bank needs to shore up its plan to weather the next economic downturn.

Foot Golf

Are you a ball golfer, as we disc golfers refer to you as? Are you a soccer player? What happens when you combine the two sports? You get foot golf. As a former soccer player myself this looks like an absolute blast to me! I can't wait to try it.

Happy Birthday

To the high priest of reggae. A poet, philosopher, writer, musician and reggae luminary, Bob Marley's star will never cease to shine. He would have turned 69 today. My favorite tune of his and his band's The Wailers...Concrete Jungle. In my opinion, this is one of the best songs they ever wrote and composed. Here it is.

This is classic!!!

I love Frank Caliendo ever since his days on Mad TV, but he has outdone himself here. My favorites in order, Gruden, Jaws and Belichick, with honorable mention for Boomer, (aka Chris Berman) but they are all classic. Seriously, this guy can impersonate anyone on the planet. Dijon Sanders...that is just funny. Great ESPN 30 for 30 spoof on the mouth that roared.

Help him get to Japan, via Malaysia

I've written about American Ninja Warrior Drew Dreschel before on this blog. He is a buddy, fellow disc golfer and an amazing athlete. If you have seen the show in the past you may have seen him competing. Drew came back from the most devastating injury that has ever transpired on the show. Help him represent the U.S. over in Malaysia if you can. He needs three thousand dollars to make the trip. Thank you.

Kradeva brez vere

Love this tune. Jan Plestenjak's Kradeva brez vere is spicy, joyful and infectious. He is singing in Slovenian if you are wondering, but no matter, music is universal. Enjoy!

The flea is back

Messi makes the defense look awful as he comes back from injury. There is a reason he is considered to be the best footballer on the planet, because he is. Although the video doesn't make it seem so, he is running pretty fast. They even try to intentionally trip him and he avoids it. Click here to watch the video.

Oden sighting

Last night Greg Oden played his first regular season basketball in four years. He was quickly winded but played well in limited minutes. All I kept thinking was please don't get hurt. We got you to match up against Hibbert in the Eastern Conference Finals and you can't help us if you get hurt before then. That may be wishful thinking considering the way the Heat have been playing lately. They have lost 3 straight and haven't looked good in any of those losses. Memo to Spo and his players, you need to play defense for more than half a quarter if you want to win against even the worst team in the NBA. No nights off please, losing becomes habitual.

In related news, it is rumored that on Inside the Heat tomorrow night there will be footage and an interview with Bigfoot.
