Before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks there were Bob Welch and Christine McVie. And of course, Mick Fleetwood was always around. Released in 1973 this Fleetwood Mac album is a subtle recording with Welch’s and McVie’s personal stamp all over it. In fact, out of the 12 tracks on this album, 6 were written by Welch, 4 by McVie with 1 more co-written by Welch. This is mellow rock at its finest, with great song construction, excellent harmonies and sleepy lyrics that sneak into your psyche. The album sold moderately and produced no hit singles, but the song Hypnotized, penned by Bob Welch, got a lot of subsequent airplay and became a sleeper hit. I absolutely love Christine McVie’s voice and my favorite track on this album is Keep On Going, which showcases her singing lead vocals. The only track on this CD not written or co-written by one of the two (Welch or McVie) is a cover of For Your Love, the hit made famous by the Yardbirds and written by Graham Gouldman.
Here's Hypnotized with a pretty cool slide show.
