You know American pop-rocker Pat Benatar, she of the mezzo-soprano range, winner of four Grammys who told us “Love is a battlefield.” Well here's a different side of this multi-platinum siren. In 1991 she released this blues record on Chrysalis records and it’s a dandy. With some wonderful melodies and a great backing band known as Roomful of Blues, Benatar shows off her wonderful vocal range and she’s obviously having fun doing it. The album is an up-tempo blues offering known as jump blues which had no radio airplay and yet sold quite respectably. It’s a fun, well produced album which blues lovers will thoroughly enjoy. Benatar’s voice just explodes through the tracks while the horns are perfectly timed and sound great as her accompaniment. I get the feeling she recorded this album as a side project to have a good time and that carefree feeling emanates throughout the tracks on this offering.
Here is track eight, her rendition of Evening, an old T-Bone Walker song. It's awesome.
