Weekend Haiku

In the summer rain
the path
has disappeared.

A brilliant haiku by one of the masters. How often do we lose the path we are on? Get sidetracked? Forget where we are going? All it takes is a little rain in our lives and our goals disappear.

Thanks for the comment. You will find a preponderance of Issa on this blog because he is by far and away my favourite master, but Buson was brilliant as well.

Of the four major haiku poets, I also like Issa the best. My favorite 20th century Japanese haiku poet is Santoka Taneda.

I will have to check out Taneda. Sadly, my haiku appreciation does not extend into the 20th century. I need to remedy that so thank you for the tip and the comment.
