The day reggae died

Okay, okay, reggae is still alive and well so the title of the post is a bit of hyperbole, but 30 years ago today the glowing firebrand of reggae passed away. I speak of course, of the great Bob Marley who succumbed to malignant melanoma on May 11th, 1981. A particularly good account of Marley's life is recounted in Timothy White's Catch a Fire: The Life of Bob Marley.

"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds."
