Well, it's all over now and Heat fans will have to wait until next year to see if they can claim another NBA championship. The Heat were sluggish last night at home and lost the NBA finals to the Dallas Mavericks by a score of 105 - 95. Thus culminated a long, torturous campaign which was saddled with controversy, schadenfreude, serious injury, some dysfunction, great play for much of the season and even a few tears if you believe Erik Spoelstra. Last night the Mavericks proved that they were the better team in this series and drove a stake through the heart of Heat fans everywhere.
It is not easy to make your way to the Finals. Only two teams arrive after a long season of many hardships for a reason. It takes stellar play, consistency, teamwork, grit and luck. Miami has its big three stars locked up for the next six years, but things can happen along the way and reaching the finals two years in a row is not a lock contrary to what many Heat fans may think. The Heat squandered many opportunities in this series, but the better team won and they wrapped up the championship on our home floor. Congratulations to the Dallas Mavericks and to Dirk Nowitzki for his series MVP award.
