Hurricane Irene has come and gone and we did not feel her wrath here in South Florida thankfully. My mother was not so lucky. She lives in Nassau, Bahamas and the island, (which is called New Providence, Nassau being the capital city) got hit.
According to her reports though it was not as bad as it could have been since the eye of the storm followed a path that took it on a more westward track. They have had significant damage to their yard with large trees down and so forth, but there was no huge storm surge and apparently the house has not suffered any structural damage. Thank goodness.
Here is a live feed from ZNS news, the Bahamas TV station.
