The Disconnection

Released in the U.S. in 2004 on Interscope records this Carina Round album received a fair amount of critical acclaim. Hard to classify, the album has been labeled under the Alternative genre. A British singer/songwriter, Round sounds like an updated version of Patti Smith, with a higher voice and more range.

The tracks on this release vary from low, rambling, brooding songs to somewhat jazzier and rockier offerings. My favorite by far is Into My Blood. This song is vintage Round, with jagged guitar licks accompanying her powerful, high pitched voice belting out the vocals. The effect is a ragged yet rhythmic sensation which captivates you and transports you to another place with its great, rocking, offbeat sound. Do yourself a favor and click on the link of the song's name in this post and listen to her pure, raw, unadulterated power. Another great song is Paris which has a jangle-rock-jazz sound to it and creates spaces for Round to show off her wonderful vocal range. There was a previous release of this album in the U.K. in 2003, the only difference being the cover.
