Mellow Mushroom comes through

I have eaten at Mellow Mushroom once and thought it was good. My wife loves the restaurant. Well, the chain has a bunch of new fans after this gesture. This is a great story. Not enough of this type of news gets reported.

It's Monday

And we all know what that means. Time for another MOTW, Manager of the Week. If you ever watched America's Most Wanted or Unsolved Mysteries you may have seen this next Manager.

MOTW: Wanted Manager

A shifty character, this manager screens all phone calls and immediately ducks into the rest room when unexpected visitors arrive at the office. Rumors are rampant about his/her checkered past, but they are all moot as Wanted Manager’s career is suddenly terminated by a visit from the U.S. Marshals.

Four beautiful women playing electric string instruments. What could be better than that? Not much. Here is Bond performing Fuego which means fire in Spanish. Nice! Enjoy and happy Friday.

The Grayest Generation

Judith Shulevitz, science editor at The New Republic and a mother of a child who she had at an "advanced maternal age" as doctors refer to it on their charts, has penned this interesting article about the effects of older men and women having children. Here is a pull quote from the article.

"Sociologists have devoted many man-hours to demonstrating that older parents are richer, smarter, and more loving, on the whole, than younger ones. And yet the tragic irony of epigenetics is that the same wised-up, more mature parents have had longer to absorb air-borne pollution, endocrine disruptors, pesticides, and herbicides."

There are many reasons to have children later in life, many of them perceived as advantageous for the parents and their offspring, but according to Shulevitz, there may be more than a few consequences lurking as well.

It's Monday

And we all know what that means. Time for another MOTW, Manager of the Week. With the current financial situation we see people in difficult positions quite a bit, but this next manager has a job and makes more than you do.

MOTW: Deadbeat Manager

If someone is your manager you would assume that he/she makes more than you do. Apparently that may not be the case with this next manager. Deadbeat Manager never has any money on him/her and is constantly hitting up anyone in sight for a loan. When no one will pony up, due to Deadbeat Manager going to the well once too often, he/she begins to moan about how pawn shops and payday loan specialists just aren’t as accommodating as they used to be. Give this manager and his/her financial situation the widest possible berth or suffer the consequences.

Happy Birthday

To "The Greatest." Muhammad Ali or Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. as he was born is 71 years old today. The man who won the world heavyweight championship at 22, floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee. He changed the sport of boxing forever.

The Wind Putt

I feel sorry for this guy. Putting is where the game is won or lost and putting in windy conditions can be extremely difficult. He might want to think about just sliding it up to the basket, taking his stroke and moving on next time.

It's Monday

And we all know what that means. Time for another MOTW, Manager of the Week. Ever had a manager that made for a bit of a bumpy ride? You might have worked for this next specimen.

MOTW: Turbulence Manager

Considers the best way to keep things creative is to make everyone work outside their comfort zone. Assigns tasks in a challenging yet haphazard manner (i.e., without giving it a lot of thought). Has everyone wondering what is coming next. Keep your seat-belt fastened!

Happy Birthday

To David Robert Jones, or David Bowie as he is better known. Bowie is one of my favorite all time artists.

Also to Stephen William Hawking, theoretical physicist and cosmologist extraordinaire. Bowie wrote songs about space, Hawking studies and writes about space.

Happy birthday to both of these gentlemen who have influenced the 20th century, each in their own unique way.

A pickpocket's tale

Spending some time with arguably the best pickpocket in the world, Apollo Robbins. At least he gives the stuff back.

It's Monday

And we all know what that means. Time for another MOTW, Manager of the Week. This next manager is a very difficult pill to swallow.

MOTW: Bitter Manager

A cynical being who packs an unending supply of vitriol, Bitter Manager has been around forever, seen and done everything and been passed over for promotion numerous times. Unfortunately you work for him/her.
